Why would we do such a thing? Not because we need an excuse to write. Most of us willingly do it in all our available time.
Rather, the energy created by frantic writing to meet a difficult deadline as a team and with friends (both old and new) is highly addictive! Last year, many of us managed to complete our novels (mine will be coming to a kindle near you soon - watch this space!) while getting caught up in this global mission.
I actually didn't think I'd have the time to compete this year, but the allure of NaNoWriMo has proven impossible to resist. At first I thought I'd just come to socialise at the write-ins, but what good is attending a write-in if you don't write?
(Actually, I've attended a few write-ins where I've done no writing at all. Rather, I whiled away the time eating ice-cream and chatting to the other Pretoria Wrimos.)
Anyway, I've decided to write, and I already have 2 000 words under my bealt. In fact, my motivation is so high that I've even decided to write a blog as well! (Well, two really, since I accidentally deleted the first draft - and let out a few words that are better left unwritten...)
For the remaining Thursdays of the month, you are guaranteed to find us geekily banging away at our laptops at the Menlyn Mug and Bean. Feel free to come join us. Even if it is just for the ice-cream and a chat. I'm game for anything!
