Foodspotter about town

Many people fall victim to eating the same meals at the same places that they’ve frequented for years. I can’t say that I blame them, really. Eating out is expensive, so you need to be sure that you are getting your money’s worth. There are few things worse than having to pay for a meal that is average at best (the downright awful ones should just be sent back!)

This is, of course, a concern to me as well, since I have limited funds to waste, and I prefer to only eat food that is excellent. Food is, after all, filled with calories. So, if I am going to eat, I’d rather not waste those calories. In the words of Anton Ego, the food critic in Ratatouille, “I don’t like food; I love it. If I don’t love it, I don’t swallow!”

Fortunately, I was recently introduced to an app called Foodspotting, where users can take photos of restaurant dishes that they recommend to others. It hasn’t really taken off in South Africa yet, but there are a few restaurants and dishes that have already been listed in Pretoria that I am unfamiliar with.

Hoping that my fellow Food Spotters in the Jacaranda City share a similar passion to food as I do, my first goal is to begin exploring some of these unknown restaurants in search of the best that Pretoria has to offer. Naturally, you can expect many additions to Foodspotter from me on the way. I already know some excellent places that haven’t been listed on the app yet!

Let the chronicle of adventure begin!

Life is full of adventures. Some are big and impressive and clearly worth writing about, such as road tripping through Namibia, climbing Kilimanjaro, or backpacking through Europe. Others are seemingly less significant, though, and far more easily overlooked.

In my opinion, every day has the opportunity to present a new adventure. There is excitement to be found in even the smallest of things, such as trying new wines, eating unusual foods, and attending obscure events. It’s about broadening our horizons, in even the smallest of ways, but regularly.

I intend to do what I love: travel, dine, cook, write, experience life, enjoy what I can, and focus less on things beyond my control. This is my journey. This is my chronicle. Let the adventure begin!
