Wine tastings at De Kloof are not to be missed, and this original idea is a new favourite.
De Kloof hosted an unusual blind wine tasting last night where guests were encouraged to BYOB (bring your own bottle). As guests arrived, bottles were collected and kept secret from other guests. These formed the basis of a blind tasting involving about 15 people, mostly from Lize Oosthuizen's Pretoria Wine Lover's Club.

A delicious selection of canapes |
Wines could be any cultivar but needed to be single varietal and cost between R80 and R100 each. The winning wines of the evening were Remhoogte's Chenin Blanc and Graham Beck's Merlot. The least favourite wine of the evening shall remain unnamed, but I'm embarrassed to admit that I'm the one that brought it along...

Cauliflower and truffle cappuccinos (no coffee) |
To accompany the wine, De Kloof spoiled tasters with a selection of delicious canapes, including truffle and cauliflower cappuccinos, caramelised onion tartlets, smoked salmon and cream cheese rolls, and chocolate brownies topped with caramel and pistachio nuts. Tasters were invited to order off the gourmet burger menu afterwards, which was the perfect end to a delicious evening.
If you live in Pretoria and have not yet been to De Kloof, you are missing out! Their menu and wine selection is fantastic, and if that's not enough they even pair the dishes and wines for you in the form of a tempting tasting menu.

Salmon burger with onion rings and chips |
This original tasting is only one of many hosted at De Kloof, and I will be back tomorrow for the Mont Du Toit gourmet wine dinner that promises to be spectacular. I'll be sure to post lots of pictures!
